Al Sadd, the Qatar-based club, has confirmed that their star forward Boualem Khoukhi has sustained an injury during training on Wednesday.

The Moroccan striker is currently undergoing medical tests to determine the extent of his injury. Al Sadd's manager, Felix Magath, said that Khoukhi would be out for "several weeks" due to the severity of his injury.

Khoukhi, who joined Al Sadd from Spanish club Espanyol in January this year, has scored five goals in just six appearances for the club so far this season.

The news comes as a blow to Al Sadd, who were hoping to continue their strong start to the season with a win against their rivals Al Rayyan on Saturday.

Magath said that the club was disappointed by the news but would support Khoukhi throughout his recovery process.

"We are very sad about this news," he said. "But we will support Boualem in every way possible."

Khoukhi's absence could leave Al Sadd short of firepower up front, with only two other players scoring goals in the league so far this season - midfielder Yasser Al-Khelaifi and defender Nabil Bentaleb.

However, Al Sadd have shown resilience in the past, and it remains to be seen how they will cope without Khoukhi's goalscoring prowess.

In the meantime, Al Rayyan will be looking to capitalize on Al Sadd's setback and secure all three points at home this weekend.
